I had intended to sew curtains for the fake window the following week, but instead, I sewed them today, about 18 months later. But nonetheless, they're done! And here's the window, in all its curtained glory:

Ninna, who, like her mother, cannot wait for spring, remarked that "it's always summer in that world!" If only it could be so on this side of that window.
If there were a tutorial, it would look like this:
1. Using your severe lack of technical skill, paint a window frame and behind it, an outdoor scene.
2. Eighteen months later, lay on the couch during nap time and send your 4 1/2 year old into the other room to search through your fabric stash for the right curtain fabric, hoping you are buying yourself a 10 minute nap. Be greatly disappointed when, exactly 27.5 seconds later, she emerges proudly carrying her top three choices.
3. Sew a simple curtain.
Aaaaaaaaaand there you have it. The chicks seem to be very excited about it. They closed the curtain before bedtime. I guess it was letting too much sun in...

This is such a cute idea! And how magical, to have a play space in their closet!
I love the concept. Nothing like a window to brighten up someone's day. Especially one with a sun and a bird :)
seriously though, when I worked as an auditor and used to put in 13-14 hour days sometimes 7 days a week at clients we sometimes had a room with no window. It was awful. But, there was an dry-erase board and someone had the great idea of drawing a window with a sun and some birds... it made a huge difference to the team! (I know, crazy weird, but it's true).
So cute...my boys' closet is all toys and "office" area for M...a little window would be so cute in it (and preferable--for Mama--to World War II posters. I like the nap part of the tutorial the best...even if it was less than half a minute.
Thanks, ladies!
Andrea--how funny about the WWII posters!
What a wonderful idea. I would love to have a spring window to look out through the winter. What lucky little chicks you have. :)
great idea...Jess and I have been toying around with the idea of making one of our closets a get away space for #1 son. I think putting a widow in there will be a good idea - thank Jaimie!
lovely.
and I like the idea that I have 18 months to get the complete job done ;-)
Cheryl--giving him a closet as a get-away space is such a great idea.
singlemama--hahaha, all my project ideas come with a minimum of 18 months for completion--that's how I operate! Just wait until I post about my already-two-year knitting project. When it's finally done, that is...
I so love how your window turned out. I am in the process of debating a basement playroom, but I have some reservations, one being the tiny window. This sure would be a nice addition.
PS Love Ninna's remark too!
