I snuck in quickly to take a photo, not wanting to disturb them or make them suddenly self-aware. There was no need, it turns out. I crept closer and closer and not once did any of them glance up at me; they were far too engrossed in their "reading" to notice the mamarazzi in the room.I love this little cocoon of early childhood. I hope to keep my chicklets there until they're really ready to climb out, which is much later than our culture would have it, unfortunately. I've had this on my mind lately as my book club just discussed Rudolf Steiner's The Education of the Child last weekend. Steiner believed in protecting children from the adult world and keeping their lives slow, calm, and peaceful. I can't imagine a better way to ease these little beings into life, but it seems that it sometimes takes a strong will and a desire to question our current norms in order to actually achieve this.

"mamarazzi" - love it!
What a lovely reading nook!
I was talking to my MIL tonight about the need to keep children's lives slow, calm, and peaceful - and just how difficult that is to achieve!
My son and I just read a book together inside the playhouse. Finding spots other than the norm makes reading even more exciting. Indeed, slow and peaceful is a good way to live, even for adults.
So whimsical! Wonderful idea.
I recently found out that I could legally keep Wednesday at home until she is six years old! Oh joy! But alas, her papa thinks she needs more social interaction then I can give her. We thought about homeschooling, very seriously considered it but alas, with her being an only child I felt like I would be depriving her. Instead, we are going to keep her home until she is five (Really there is no need for the rigid schedules of school). Maybe if we lived in a city the size of Montreal papa would let me keep her in my home cocoon longer? Until then she will get to eat when she is hungry, sleep when she is tired, play when she feels inspired and so on.
I always ramble in your comment box, I hope that is a good thing? I know it is a sign that you write about things I care about?
Have a great week Jaimie!
So cozy...I think a canopy is just the finishing touch my room need! (Note, I want it for me, not the kids).
My boys share a room and the twins share a bed--culturally weird, but perfect for us.
Oh children. I just love the childlike childness of them. The secret lives they live that we can only photograph, from the outside. Sigh.
Also, the marble run? Awesomeness!
I love both mamarazzi & rudolf steiner :-)
I've been thinking about that, too, lately. Just creating mental space for imagination, and not filling it with flashy cartoons and branded stuff. Enjoying simple, creative games...
It's sad that we have to protect mental space for our little ones' imaginations.
