A Peek at the Harvest

I'm kind of excited to report that our balcony garden is faring significantly better than I had hoped. We're not producing whole meals or anything, but we are producing food! Here are some peas from a few days ago:

And some lettuce from the same day:

Tonight, after Bojey went to bed, Ninna harvested the first of our carrots--the first carrot I've ever grown on my own:

It was tiny, but it was ridiculously delicious. Ninna insisted that we save a third of it for Bojey, so we have a carrot scrap floating in a cup of water in the fridge, along with the greens, which we'll add to stir fry.

What is your garden producing this week?

How exciting for you! Those peas look amazing. We have many green tomatoes, three have turned orangey, and our carrots are much smaller than yours -well done on yours! No cucumbers or pumpkins :( I wish we could live off basil, thyme and rosemary.

Yummy! Those peas would not last 5 min in our house. I must try planting some next year. This year, we have a crazy amount of cherry tomatoes. I have to go pick them every day to keep them from the birds - grrr! And we tried lettuce but we have some kind of animal eating it all too - lol ... luckily our other vegetables are doing great: cucumbers, zucchini, squash, green beans and peppers.

We are inundated with green and yellow peppers and the tomatoes are just starting to ripen, but the animal that is living in our yard isn't letting us have them. We'll have to pick them before they ripen completely if we want to get any. We too just harvested our first carrots EVER this year. I've never grown them before. It was pretty amazing to pull up the greens that had grown from those teeny tiny seeds and see actual orange carrots. Tiny but yummy. Your peas look divine. We would have eaten those right off the vine. We didn't plant those this year, but we did plant beans and it's been a bad year for beans around here. Love your blog!

Gorgeous! We've got lots of swiss chard right now, garlic and, I think, some new potatoes ready to come out. You're making me hungry!

I wish you wouldn't have asked that... my garden is producing weeds because I didn't plant anything this year... :-( (thought we were redoing our kitchen but now are waiting for next year to start construction... but that is another story). I LOVE your pictures by the way! You need to let me know what kind of camera you have! I want it!!! (and now I'm hungry!) Great Job Hen!! <3

Congratulations! Try some yard long beans - they grow in any condition and really do grow to be a two feet long each! They would be perfect for growing conditions! A few beans will make a meal!

Isn't it rediculous how much joy a tiny, little, dirty, root vegetable can give?

Your produce looks delicious. :-)

My tomatoes, my peppers and my herbs are really doing well this time.

Zucchini not so good :(

Be blessed,
