I initially didn't think I'd bother to post about this since one can only write about playdough so many times, but the direction of the girls' play (and mine) was so much fun that I did end up pulling out the camera.
Maybe you've all thought of this a million times, but we've never done this before. Bojey asked if we could use the toy animals with the playdough, so I brought over the basket of animals. We quickly realized that If you take your small plastic animals and walk them along a flattened piece of playdough, you can make animal tracks! And it's even more fun when your playdough looks like snow, especially so when you have no real snow outside.
Even the pterodactyl joined the fun:
Eventually we brought over the nature bowl and included things line pinecones and feathers. How cute is this squirrel in the woods?
And here's Ninna's red forest:
Is it weird that I'm kind of excited to play with the playdough again this weekend?

Pepperminty, glittery playdough? With teeny animal tracks? Yes, please!

I love using glitter to make it look more like snow! We've done animal tracks in play dough before, but it does look like more fun where the play dough looks like snow!
Totally worth a post! I was planning on glittery, pepperminty playdoh as gifts this year; love this idea for the batch I'm sure we'll keep!
My big ah-ha idea this week was playdough on our overhead projector (not necessary, but fun) with light-brite pieces to poke in.
Those tracks in the dough look soooo cool!
I love the combo of glitter, peppermint, and animal tracks! I just discovered Wilson's paste to color playdough and I'm digging the beautiful colors - they even have white! Thanks for the awesome idea! ;)
Good reminder that I need to get some snow colored glitter before winter ends! Love this post.
You've totally inspired me! Today is playdoh day!
Not weird at all! Looks fun to me too. When my oldest was little, this was pretty much the only way he played w/ playdough--roll it out, make tracks, roll it out, make tracks. Usually with cars not animals, but it kept him busy for ages.
Such sweet animal tracks. Thanks for the inspiration, I think we are going to make this on the weekend.
So cute! I'm going to use this idea on a Pie Crust:) ~ Barefoot mama
Thanks all! And such great ideas--overhead projector, lite brite pieces, Wilson's food dye, pie crust...I'm filing them all away in my mental mama notebook!
Love love love this idea! One of my kids is getting a book about animal tracks for Christmas. This is the perfect hands-on activity to go along with it!
