Yes, 'tis true, but the chickadees will be with their dad tomorrow visiting with grandparents, so October 1st came a day early this year. The big fun on this day comes when we open the box of Halloween stuff, largely decorations, and make the house festive.
Lately Bojey has this absolutely hysterical laugh, and she exploded into howls with each new "funny, funny, funny!" thing that came from the box. And I do have to say that we've amassed some pretty fun Halloween goodness.
Ninna wasted no time finding the Halloween stickers and immediately got to work making some wall decorations to put next to her bed:
This guy is a new addition this year.
It's only been seven hours, and I've already been scared to death by him at least 15 times. I have the memory of a goldfish.
Want your own? "Quoth the raven, dollar store." (Dollarama to be exact.)

Happy October! I love that raven! I think it is so great that you keep everything in a box and make it an annual event each year. I think children enjoy these moments, sort of time markers. We do something like that with a special gigantic wooden nutcracker that is only supposed to descend from the attic on December 1st.
Very nice photo shot, thanks for sharing.
I love your girls' outfits!
And too funny that the raven keeps scaring you!
Oh my goodness, October always catches me unawares. Halloween costumes to create (based on vague descriptions). Halloween decorations to unearth. Halloween treats to cook up (I have my heart set on Dio De Los Muertes skull cookies, but when???).
We're doing our last bits of decorating today! I hear you about the raven, too...my son fell in love with a huge fake spider while we were shopping last week. It ended up coming home with us, and that thing has given me a near heart attack on a daily basis.
Love the raven! My kids are so ready for Halloween decorations...except we don't have any, whoops!
Andrea--You must post cookie photos when you make them!
Cara--I kind of like that the Raven keeps scaring me. It's keeping me on my toes ;).
Rachel--If you were closer, we could barter handmade Halloween decorations for some of that homemade fermented ginger ale!
yeah october! it is truly a reason to celebrate.
I definitely want one!!! Wonder if he is sold in the states too! My best decoration is in my classroom... witch legs that hang from my ceiling (you know like school tile/ basement tile ceilings). It's just her legs so it looks like she crashed through the roof. You should see the looks on the kids faces when they first see it... (and the kindergartners as they walk by... hilarious!
Oh man, I love all of this! Your current header image of the decorations is fantastic. Since the boys are so young, our fall traditions are less-Halloween based, but still super fun: trip to a local farm to pick out pumpkins, corn maze/hayride/cow train adventures, jack-o-lantern show at the zoo. I love this time of year! Thanks for sharing your traditions :)
